Rakez Kayed 31st Annual Lorne Proteomics Symposium 2026

Rakez Kayed

Rakez Kayed, PhD. is the John Sealy Distinguished Chair in Parkinson Disease Research, Professor at the Departments of Neurology Mitchell Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases at University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas. The Kayed laboratory focuses on. His lab studies the formation, biochemically, biophysical, and immunological characterization, toxicity and spreading of biologically active oligomeric polymorphs/strains and their potential role in the disease pathogenesis and developing antibodies and small molecules targeting specific forms aggregates. He pioneered the development of aggregate specific antibodies and many reagents and methodologies that are being used extensively to studying protein aggregation and mechanisms of toxicity. Dr. Kayed leads the NIH funded Tau Interdisciplinary Research Network for disseminating well-characterized tau aggregates to the research community. The ultimate research goals are developing therapeutic strategies tailored against specific protein aggregate. Dr. Kayed has exceptionally vibrant track record coauthoring more than 195 peer-reviewed articles with more than 44,000 citations.
