Adekunle David Micah
My name is Adekunle David Micah, and I am a PhD student in Food Science at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), specializing in the study of Kiwano, also known as the African horned melon. My academic background spans biology, fisheries, and aquaculture, with expertise in toxicology and fish nutrition. I previously earned a PhD in aquaculture from Shanghai Ocean University. However, the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted my skill acquisition during that period. This experience motivated me to pursue a second PhD at AUT, where I am honing my expertise with cutting-edge research tools and methodologies. Over the years, I have gained valuable teaching experience in biology and fisheries-related courses at schools and universities. Beyond academics, I am passionate about maintaining an active and balanced lifestyle. My interests include playing table tennis, cycling, yoga, and staying physically fit. In addition, I enjoy staying informed through reading newspapers and engaging with current events.
Currently, my research focuses on exploring the nutritional and functional potential of Kiwano and its applications in food science. I aspire to advance sustainable food production, promote the utilization of underutilized crops, or enhance food security globally.
I am committed to academic excellence, innovation, and contributing to solutions for global challenges in nutrition, health, and sustainability.
